Breaking and Entering

Dear Editor,

I would just like to put forward a few comments to those 15-16 year olds that entered a lot of houses between 2 and 5am last Tuesday night and stole from us and many others. Firstly well done to the police in recovering all of our things that were taken but to the offenders, my children are now nervous about being at home and double check doors and windows before they go to bed.

Get some perspective!

Dear Editor,

My whinge is to do with everyone whinging about people gettin drunk and peeing in the street or pinching a steak and cheese pie from the ‘two-four’. Seriously I read the papers every week and the incidents that make the crime section are quite funny. I can’t believe that people make the paper for things like this.

Last Request

Dear Editor,

I have lived here for 3 years now and I love it. Like many, I just couldn’t bring myself to leave the great people and vibe that make this town so wonderful. Having said that, there is one thing that bothers me...

Vanishing Vacancies

Dear Editor,

I see that QLDC has yet again taken away long-term parks in favour of more short-term parking, this time at the entrance to the rugby ground car park. The two new 10-minute bays that sit opposite the constantly empty disabled bays that we got last year, serve absolutely no-one except for SuperLiquor, so I can only presume that they must have some pretty handy friends in high places. The result - two more workers who can’t find a long-term bay, or 10 minutes earlier everyone needs to get to town to find a parking space in the morning. Cheers.

Let’s cross the street

Dear Editor,

While I don’t get out to enjoy the wonderful night life here much (having 2 children), my partner and I ventured into town for a night out the other Saturday. We are in our late 30’s (not old) and I must say we were really disgusted with the behaviour of the ‘young people’ around town.

Thumbs Down

Dear Editor,

So I have a small issue. Being a Queenstown local (and yes I was actually born here and went to school here) I appreciate this town. I appreciate how hard it is to get anywhere, how expensive food/rent/gas/petrol is and I understand the social aspect of this town - believe me, that part I understand very well.

Response to 255 editorial

Dear Editor,

Does anybody really care? Does anybody not see what disaster lies ahead? I have read Scott Stevens rants about people putting there hand up for council and putting right the wrongs and generally being part of making this place even better than it already is. He is absolutely right especially his comments about a mayor with the “x” factor. The debacle regarding the Airport sale has seen many potential councillors and mayors, some possibly with the “x” factor telling us all how the deal should have been done and that if it had been them then this would have happened and that would have happened. My suggestion is that all these people should run for council. The big problem however, as I see it, is that no-one with common sense or intelligence would run for council if you pay peanuts. Because if you pay peanuts, you are going to get monkeys and there are definitely plenty of signs of monkey poo around the QLDC.

Chain reaction

Dear Editor,

When driving up the ski area after a snow storm and obeying the chain restrictions in place. I laugh at people who think the chain restriction is placed to ruin their day or perhaps because they are locals the are not subject to current road conditions. Somehow they think they are able to elevate themselves above the surface of the road, similar to jesus walking on water. Well I have some ground breaking news. You are sharing the road with 3000 other people who are here on vacation who perhaps do not know how to drive in snow and ice. If they get stuck in front of you, you will be stuck too causing undue stress to everyone involved. So unless your 4wd also comes with a grit spreader under all four tires, a grappling hook and self inflating bumpers bars, help me get up the hill and down without any stress or without being hit. Just spend those 10 mins throwing chains on.

‘Beached as’

Human Blockage

Dear Editor,

You know its winter when... you can’t cleanly get down Fernhill Road because of the skiers/boarders in the middle of the road begging for a ride... so now we have to swerve around you to get down the hill do we? Okay so I know this happens every season and I know it’s part of living here but seriously? Some of us just opt to catch the bus instead there are those who just stand there and even the threat of a large bus doesn’t move them from the middle of the road. They then proceed to wave the bus down forcing it to make a sharp stop to avoid hitting them! Make a decision people! Either commit to hitching and get the hell out of the middle of the road or catch a bus and wait at a proper stop like the rest of us, not just where it suits you.... It’s hard enough for these buses to run on time as it is. Make your choice and stick to it, don’t endanger the rest of us simply trying to get to work.
