Fire crews and two helicopters are tackling a scrub fire near Kingston this morning.

The blaze is on farmland between Kingston and Garston, about 50km south of Queenstown, just off State Highway 6.

"We responded at about 6.20am this morning," says FENZ shift manager Lyn Crosson. "It ended up being about two to three hectares. Looks like it was a controlled burn that's just got away a bit and needed some assistance putting it down.

Crews from Kingston and Gaston attended.

"We've also had two helicopters working just putting some extra water on there. It's not going anywhere. It is contained but the helicopters are still there, they're working to extinguish it to our satisfaction."
